Making Coaching Purposeful

Recently, we’ve been working on helping our coaching clients set an agenda in our sessions so that every time we meet they walk away with something meaningful to them. We've been asking them what they would like to take away from our conversation.

These are some responses from our clients:

🔸 Greater clarity about which advertised job I want to pursue further.

🔸 To process my hurt so I can start to move forward with repairing the relationship.

🔸 To know if I've considered all the options.

🔸 A list of ideas for ways to find peace in my everyday life.

Setting an agenda like this at the start of our time together allows both coach and client to know at the end if we have made progress.

I (Sarah) visited Tanglin Trust School this week for a meeting of their accredited internal coaches at their half-termly Coaching Hub. I led the discussion about setting the agenda in a coaching session. I shared this question (my current favourite!) and several others to help coaches and clients work together purposefully.

My recent learning about agenda setting came from a session with my coaching supervisor, Dr Vivian Nazari.

At The Bright Side, we are both qualified coaching supervisors and would love to work with you and your organisation's coaches to build your coaching practice. Get in touch!

🔸 Coaches, how do you make sure your clients find sessions purposeful?
