Being a Coaching Leader

At the WomenEdSGP conference, we were thrilled to present a workshop about coaching skills for leaders. We shared about the mindset of a coaching leader and how that might play out in listening and questioning. We performed a live demo of a one-to-one meeting with a team member - and we are so grateful for a willing volunteer from the group to talk about a genuine project she is working on: Lara May Liebenberg!

Participants noticed that in this conversation, we asked three times what was going well with her project. Then we asked about the challenges she had faced and what learning she had gained. If this was a conversation in which the leader had some concerns, those could be brought up by saying, "May I tell you what I've noticed?... Can we discuss...?"

Coaching can make a good leader into a great one by building a safe space that is full of empowerment without judgement.

Thoughtful contributions were made by Atima Joshi, Tessie Word, Sarah Cole, Jane Lobsey, Pauline Markey, Jennifer E. Blackman, MEd,MCCT,PGCE, and many more 😊 Thank you!
