Conflict Resolution
It was excellent to be able to present two workshops last week at the Pursuing Excellence conference at International Community School (Singapore) about conflict resolution. We talked about:
π How to be a leader who coaches a person who is in a conflict, and
π How to approach a challenging conversation when we ourselves are involved in a conflict.
We talked about how valuable it is to process our emotions and thoughts when we are in a conflict situation. Having a coach who asks about our emotions, needs, and values can help us decide what is our priority going into a challenging conversation. The goal is to verbalise our emotions and decide our priorities in advance so we can navigate the situation calmly and with the most chance of success.
Leaders submitted (anonymous) scenarios in advance and we worked on those in the session, building up helpful and neutral language that could be used in a conversation. The participants were very engaged with the sessions and the discussion was very thoughtful and productive. What a joyful experience to present and engage with leaders on an important and valuable topic.
