Challenging Conversations
As part of our role as Lead Coaches at Tanglin Trust School, we recently led two workshops about Challenging Conversations - one for staff and one for parents. Thank you to everyone who participated! It was exciting to think together about how to prepare for and have a conversation that's really important to us. We felt encouraged to have more conversations that matter and honour all the parties.
In a recent conversation with Clare Anderson Au, she mentioned that she likes to use the phrase “Necessary Conversations” when it comes to tricky situations. We resonate with her thoughts.
We want to have those conversations because there’s something important that needs to be addressed and discussed. Calling it a “Necessary Conversation” gives it a sense of purpose. Understanding our emotions, needs and values beforehand can help us avoid amygdala hijack, and focus more on solutions.
Our article about the workshops has been published in the school's magazine, The Voice. Thanks to Lilian W. for the excellent design and editing, and the opportunity to contribute.
